Skype

I tried out IM+ for Skype on my treo yesterday and I must say: I'm impressed. Sure its not as cheap as a pure VOIP call, but it is crystal clear. Calls from Namibia appear to cost around 25 cents USD per minute, that's about what a local cell call costs in Namibia, so its dirt cheap.

IM+ uses a call back system which places 2 calls at the same time, one to my cell phone and one to the destination, so it really only uses VOIP for the trip across the ocean. Thus I don't rely on MTC data network to provide consistent latency, although I do pay a bit more. But 25 cents USD is about $1.75 Namibian, the normal overseas rate is about $12 Namibian a minute. Anyway if you want to talk to me, and don't use Skype, you can always send Skype credit to my Skype username: fliplap
