Holi Crap

Piles of powered color for the Holi festival

So we somehow ended up in Delhi without an onward train until March 2nd. That would be a big deal if Holi wasn't on March 1st. Holi sounds like great fun if you're a young Indian male, and from what we've heard from other travellers, terrifying if you're not.

For most Indians it involves a morning of chucking colored water at each other. Thrown from buckets, sprayed with squirt guns and tossed via balloon, the water fight sounds like a great time. Revellers rub paint and colored powder on each other, drink beer and smoke pot. Unfortunately the tendancy of young men to get wildly drunk and stoned means that women, especially western women, need to stay off the street, even if accompanied by a man, from morning until late afternoon on the day of the actual festival.

Some people have started celebrating early. Jenn has already fallen victim to 2 water balloon attacks. We're hoping to find somewhere high up to watch to festivities on the street below.
